SpaceX's Starlink Achieves Impressive Manufacturing Milestone
SpaceX investor Steve Jurvetson revealed on Friday that the company’s Starlink manufacturing line produces a remarkable 4.7 million terminals each year. This achievement highlights SpaceX's capability in scaling its satellite internet service.
What Happened: Jurvetson shared his excitement by stating, "The Starlink manufacturing line is the closest thing to a fully automated alien dreadnought that I have ever seen. It makes 4.7 million terminals per year, and growing. One subsection is the largest printed circuit board factory in America," in a post on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
Jurvetson, who is a venture capitalist and an early investor in Elon Musk’s SpaceX, currently serves on the company’s Board of Directors.
The impressive manufacturing line Jurvetson mentioned is located at SpaceX’s Starlink terminal production facility in Bastrop, Texas. This factory plays a crucial role in meeting global demand for Starlink’s satellite internet service.
In a previous X post in September, SpaceX announced that Starlink is providing internet connectivity to over 4 million people worldwide. These customers are located across more than 100 countries and territories. Just a few months ago, on May 20, Starlink reported connecting over 3 million customers, indicating a gain of one million customers in a short span of four months.
Why It Matters: During a recent conference hosted by Baron Capital, SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell stated that Starlink is expected to generate profit this year. She noted, "We are going to make some money on Starlink this year. But ultimately, I think Starship (the company's new rocket under development) will propel us into becoming one of the most valuable companies out there." Despite the optimism, Shotwell did not disclose detailed financial information about the private company.
Investors interested in SpaceX’s growth can consider leveraging Destiny Tech100 Inc. (NYSE:DXYZ) and Cathie Wood‘s Ark Venture Fund (ARKVX) to gain exposure to the company’s trajectory.
