Apple Sees Record Growth in India During December Quarter

Published January 31, 2025

Apple has identified India as a significant market for its growth, achieving a record in sales for the December quarter. According to CEO Tim Cook, the iPhone was the best-selling smartphone in the country during the last three months of 2024.

After sharing impressive financial results for its first quarter, Cook emphasized the company's success in multiple emerging markets. He pointed out, "We are especially excited about India, where we set a new record for the December quarter. To support our growth, we are planning to open four new stores in the country this year."

Moreover, Cook highlighted that the iPhone was the leading model sold in India during this period. With India being the second-largest smartphone market globally and the third for PCs and tablets, he acknowledged the potential for Apple's growth in this region, given its currently modest market share. He stated, "There is a great opportunity for growth in India, just as there is in other emerging markets."

Additionally, the active install base for iPhones reached an all-time high across all geographic regions. Cook mentioned, "We are also pleased to report a record number of iPhone upgrades this quarter. According to a survey by Kantar, the iPhone ranked as a top-selling model in several global markets, including the United States, urban China, India, the UK, France, Australia, and Japan."

Cook also referenced partnerships in India, citing Zomato, a major food delivery service, which has incorporated thousands of Macs into its operations to enhance productivity and innovation.

In terms of financial performance, Apple achieved its highest quarterly revenue to date, totaling $124.3 billion, marking a 4% increase compared to the previous year. Cook expressed his excitement for the launch of their best-ever collection of products and services during the holiday season, enhancing user experience through the power of Apple silicon and the new Apple Intelligence, which aims to make applications more personalized and better. Notably, this feature will be available in more languages, including those spoken in India, starting in April.
