AI, Automotive Innovations, and Quirky Gadgets to Shine at CES 2024

Published January 5, 2025

The annual tech trade show, CES, officially opens on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

This event is set to highlight the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, automotive technology, and unique gadgets for home entertainment. Thousands of companies, from big names like Samsung, LG, and Sony to up-and-coming startups, will showcase their innovations to around 100,000 expected attendees.

CES serves as a platform not only for launching new consumer devices and services but also for unveiling concept designs that hint at future tech trends.

The Dominance of AI

According to industry expert Leo Gebbie from CCS Insight, AI is likely to remain a central theme at this year’s CES. However, he cautions about "AI fatigue," where the constant discussion of AI technology may lose its impact.

"AI will be prevalent in major keynotes and throughout the show floor," Gebbie notes. "But we may be approaching a stage where AI is viewed as a given topic rather than an exciting new development."

He suggests that the focus may shift to how AI can refresh certain sectors, particularly smart home technology, which has seen stagnant interest recently.

Trends in Automotive Technology

Gebbie also observed that CES has shifted its spotlight towards automotive technology, with many companies showcasing innovations that fuse automotive and consumer electronics. This trend is driven by the increasing significance of software in the automotive industry.

Alongside traditional car manufacturers, a diverse range of tech companies will display solutions focusing on infotainment, transportation efficiency, safety, and electric vehicle charging systems. All of these advancements are steering toward the goal of autonomous driving.

Quirky Gadgets and More

Alongside serious innovations, CES is also famous for its eye-catching and unusual gadgets. Gebbie anticipates a mix of such products, though many may not retain interest beyond the event.

Last year, various companies, including LG and Samsung, presented futuristic concepts like transparent television screens and robotic assistants, which often capture headlines.

Global Representation

Analyst Paolo Pescatore highlights the growth of automotive technology at CES, emphasizing the blurred lines between consumer electronics and automotive solutions.

Countries participating in CES also utilize this platform to showcase their technological prowess, with multiple UK firms expected to attend. Pescatore notes, "Events like CES provide nations the chance to assert their status in the tech landscape. France is often a notable participant, showcasing innovative products that aim to make a global impact, frequently backed by AI."
